My name is Ed and as a life-long resident of Chatham-Kent, I am asking for your support. With your help, we can improve the quality of life for residents, like myself, who require orthopedic surgery such as knee or hip replacements.
As an avid athlete, I started a successful badminton career in 1964, playing in several Ontario and Canada Opens. I also passed on my passion for the sport by coaching badminton at local high schools for over 15 years.
The years of competitive sports had taken a toll on my body.
I began to experience constant pain in my knee, which affected my quality of life, including my ability to walk. What I found to be the most disheartening was that I could no longer play golf — one of my greatest passions. This immense pain was keeping me from doing what I loved.
I knew I had to do something.
I met with Dr. Stone, an Orthopedic Surgeon at CKHA, and was immediately scheduled for knee replacement surgery. My pain quickly subsided once the procedure was complete. I felt like my old self again. Simple tasks that seemed impossible before were no longer a problem. I returned to the golf course at least once a week and found I was playing even better than before.
I feel fortunate to have had such a high-performing orthopedic surgery program right here in Chatham-Kent when I needed it.
“When I first met Ed, he was struggling to cope with the amount of pain he was feeling,” said Dr. Stone. “I see many patients like Ed who can barely get through the day, and surgery gives them a new outlook on life.”
We have a high demand for orthopedic procedures in our community. In just the past two years, more than 700 knee and hip replacement surgeries have been completed at CKHA, and these numbers are rising.
It is critical that we continue to invest in new equipment and advanced technology.
You can help to further enhance CKHA’s capabilities in the orthopedic field by supporting the purchase of a Portable X-ray Unit.
This equipment can be used to observe bone alignment in the operating room, which enhances the quality of the procedure to ensure a more successful outcome. It can detect possible postoperative complications, reducing the potential for further procedures and return visits to the hospital.
“Without your support, we would not be able to purchase the cutting-edge technology required for these procedures,” said Dr. Stone. “Your generosity will help to ensure patients are able to live with a better quality of life, and fully enjoy the activities they love.”
Your donation today will help to ensure that orthopedic surgery at CKHA can continue to provide patients with the highest level of care possible.
