Janet and John Cook Bone Densitometer Suite Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

CHATHAM, ON (Thursday June 23, 2016):  The Janet and John Cook Bone Densitometer Suite, located at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance’s (CKHA) Chatham Campus, officially opened its doors with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony which took place with Mr. John Cook, along with his close friends and key stakeholders from the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation and CKHA.

Bone densitometry is a test similar to an x-ray that quickly and accurately measures the density of bone.  It is used primarily to detect osteopenia or osteoporosis, diseases in which the bone’s mineral and density are low and risk of fractures is high.

This machine is an important piece of equipment that helps save lives and we are fortunate to have it at CKHA.  It replaces an older machine that has not been working for several months. Because the new machine is up and running, CKHA radiologists and technicians are able to see patients, up to fifteen a day, and work through a two month waiting list.  Patients are grateful to not have to travel to have these tests done.

“I am delighted I could support the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation with such an important piece of equipment.  Janet would be so proud that we were able to support the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation and our community,” said John Cook.

Dr. Patricia Tomney shared, “We are excited as a Radiology Department to receive this state-of-the-art Bone Mineral Densitometer Machine.  It will be a great asset to our entire community.”

“Janet was a long-time volunteer with our Foundation. She was an integral part of our organization and to give a gift like this with her husband, John, really speaks to their generosity for our community.  We are fortunate to have them support our campaign and while we will always miss Janet, it is heartwarming to see her legacy live on,” said Michele Grzebien-Huckson, Executive Director, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation.

CKHA and the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation are most grateful for the donation from Janet and John Cook. This generous gift will help save thousands of lives in our community.
