CHATHAM, ON (Wednesday, April 29, 2015): Earlier this week, representatives from the Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary presented a cheque for $20,000 to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation (CKHA) in support of the CKHA Diagnostic Imaging Equipment Renewal Campaign.
This generous donation from the Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary was made possible through various fundraising efforts coordinated by the Auxiliary throughout the year.
“On behalf of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation, thank you to the members of the Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary for this very generous donation to the CKHA Diagnostic Imaging Equipment Renewal Campaign,” says Michele Grzebien-Huckson, Executive Director, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation. “Your ongoing hard work and commitment to local healthcare has made this donation possible and for that, we are very grateful.”
About the Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary
Established in 1957, the Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary is a volunteer organization dedicated to the enhancement of patient care at CKHA’s Sydenham Campus. The Auxiliary, in co-operation with the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation, works with the residents of Chatham-Kent to raise funds for the enhancement of local hospital-based healthcare services.
Over the years, Auxiliary members have done everything from creating curtains and blankets for the hospital to placing artwork in Sydenham’s hallways, hosting Bridge and Euchre parties, selling baked goods, organizing rummage sales and launching a Candy Striper program, among other achievements. Today, the Auxiliary is a fixture at the Sydenham Campus as the management of the Serendipity Gift Shop.
The funds raised by the Auxiliary have purchased Sydenham’s lighted ‘H’ on the hospital roof; provided furnishings and medical equipment; funded and assisted in the development of the Palliative Care Unit at the Sydenham Campus; created a flower bed in front of the hospital, and supported the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation’s Every Life Counts Chatham-Kent Physician Recruitment Fundraising Campaign, The Future’s In Sight Ophthalmology Campaign, the Making the Right Investment – MRI Campaign, the Cardiac Monitoring System Campaign, the Sydenham X-Ray Equipment Fundraising Campaign and now the CKHA Diagnostic Imaging Equipment Renewal Campaign.
About the CKHA Diagnostic Imaging Equipment Renewal Campaign
As part of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation’s directive to raise funds to support CKHA’s Highest Priority Needs, the CKHA Diagnostic Imaging Equipment Renewal Campaign was launched to support CKHA in the purchase of new diagnostic imaging equipment for CKHA’s Diagnostic Imaging Department.
Phase 1 of this campaign will focus on the purchase of a new Fluoroscopy System, a new CT Scan, new Ultrasound Equipment (including two units for CKHA’s Sydenham Campus) and a new Bone Densitometer – these four key pieces of equipment serve almost every program offered at CKHA and are key for diagnoses in a multitude of cases, including heart, stroke, cancer, orthopaedics, rehabilitation, obstetrics and gynecology, just to name a few.
To date, more than $2.6 million has been raised for this important campaign.
