George’s Story

My name is George, a long-time Chatham-Kent resident and former Sergeant in the Chatham-Kent Police Service. When I retired from the force in 2017, I looked forward to decades of health and happiness with my wife Darlene at my side. Life had other plans.

In January of 2020, I was rushed by ambulance to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance’s (CKHA) Chatham site. I had developed a blood clot that seriously affected my colon, kidneys, and liver.

We are so fortunate to have well-equipped hospitals only minutes from home. Thanks to the life-saving equipment at CKHA, along with talented and compassionate staff to deliver care, they were able to surgically remove the blockage, heal my wound, and restore function to my vital organs.

Having access to equipment like the wound VAC machine at CKHA can make a world of difference. It healed the large open wound in my abdomen while allowing me to stay close to my loved ones at home.

I never expected to need the services at CKHA, and I am so grateful they were here for me. Many patients from across Chatham-Kent continue to need critical hospital care that your generous gift will provide.
